    Fuel Problem..

This is really weird and has happened to me 3 times so far.
I opened the gas cap and put the fuel pump hose into the filler neck and started pumping gas. It filled up in 2 seconds, The gas would not go into the gas tank. It would only fill the filler neck. The first time it happened it cleared up in a few min on its own. The second time it happened i barly made it home on fumes and when i got home it worked fine again. This past weeknd it did it again. I was on fumes and parked the car in a parking lot. I could see the fuel in the filler neck but it would not go down into the tank. After an hour of letting the car sit, the fuel in the filler neck drained into the tank on its own. Has anyone had this problem and if so what did you do to fix it.. My car has 281 k miles and runs great, just freaks me out that sometimes it wont take gas. . any input would help, thanks.

I am drawing a blank on this one. Has the tank ever been removed from the car?

Will it fill using a gas can?
Try it with a funnel with a hose on the end.
Maybe the pressure is not releasing when refueling.

The tank NEEDs to vent air while refilling it. Sarge has it right. Could be a problem with the canister or vent valve being restricted. It could also be a problem with the roll over valve.

oh and it could also be your fault. If you are leaving the key on while filling, that keeps the vent valve closed and the tank won't vent.
