I looked up this 3506 # as well. Unfortunately nothing is listed for specs as to it's length but I'm willing to bet it's the shorty.
Especially since it's listed for both the 3/4 ton truck and the 5.7 Fbody. They have done just as I suspected, substituting a "one size fits all" LS filter to cut down on costs.

That is why I said IIRC
I have remote dual filters on the GTO that take XG8A's. The truck takes XG10060.

I haven't dealt with Fram since my last car. And even then, after I read all the hoopla about them caving in on themself, I switched to either ACDelco or Purolator. On the Goat, I have used ACDelco, Quaker State and Purolator. This is good news for Fram though.

I'm thinking it's just cheaper to offer "one size fits all" nowadays for some of these manufactures. That seems to be the theme for almost anything aftermarket anymore.
Yep. I've noticed this too. Back when the LS based Escalades came out, the recommended filter was the long one. Now just about every catalog lists the short one, even ACDelco's catalog does. Its weird. They started by putting the short filter on the Hummer H2 because the long one doesn't fit. Seems like it started a trend towards the short filter for the trucks.

I did not use a Fram since the early nineties.....20 years.
These are not the orange can of death filters....actually I cut open a Mobil1 and a XG. I could tell no difference. Down to the details. I think they are the exact same filter now.

Mobil1 is $12.99 at AutoZone and XG is $8.79 at ChinaMart.

well no...but yes thats the next generation of the short filter. There are currently several catalogs out there that list the PF46(short) for the 1/2 ton trucks, when they original came with the PF61(long) style. Basically its a confusing mess.

Tell me about it. When I used to change the oil on GM trucks and CTS-Vs a few years ago, my old boss would write up the wrong filter number and we would have to order the filters from another supplier. What a clusterphuck.
