    First LS1 questions

Hey folks, dunno if you looked at my intro post but I'm dropping an LS1 into an RX7. Its a car I got for my son, he immediately blew up the pos rotary and now the car sits. He's a dumb ass and lost his license so the car is mine now.

So is there any years of LS1 engines or trannys I need to beware of and any that are better then other years?

look for at least a 99+ due to some oiling changes, rod bolt changes, and pcm changes. Tranny wise you should build whatever tranny you go with.

Stock on stock would be fine, what I think orion is saying is you can go with any tranny you want.
The 4l60 will suit just fine.

I assumed the car would get beat on some so if it were me I'd get a built auto while you were doing everything. If you were going with a manual I'd do the clutch while it was out. If you plan on staying stock with the engine you'd be fine. I was just assuming that if you were doing all that you'd be modding the motor and beating on the car.......I would.

anything you can get for a good price go for it. otherwise orion's right with the 00 and up. the weakest link to an ls1 is the rod bolts. replace them with some ARP's while the motor is out and you can twist it to wherever your hydraulic cam will allow.
