Firebird RearEnds, Are they 10 bolts?

Do Firebirds (98-02) share the same rear ends (10 bolts) as their big brothers?

(Sorry, I lazy in my old age to go into a junk yard and jack up a wreak and lay under it just to see if it does)

I'm asking because I'm researching for a project and I know where I can get 2 Firebird rear ends, cheap.

(I don't want the gears, just the axle tubes.)

    Thanks

the rear ends are exactly the same minus the ratios. v6 cars came with open differentials stock with a 3.08 ratio for an auto and 3.23 with a manual . optional was a 3.42 for the auto and a posi unit could also be ordered

What are you planning to do, Scott? Reinforce your current rear?

I may be experimenting with an 8.8 rear build and need the axle tubes.

I want to get 2 extra 10 bolts so that if I make a mistake I have a spare if needed.

I will not drop the one that is currently in mine to experiment on. It's still working fine for now, but it's a major hurdle in future power plans that needs to be address. 8.8's seem to be just as tough as 9" and if SPAZ hasn't killed his by now it must be a tough SOB. I've been researching and it seems there is a good enough aftermarket support in gears, axles, etc... that this may be an affordable alternative to dropping 3k on a 9" or 12 bolt.

The major hurdle I've found is getting the 2 metals to weld right. That takes a skill welder and I am not one, however I know one and he has loads of experence in building rock crawlers and mud bugs/trucks.

OK. There is a member here who put an 8.8 from an Explorer into his SS. I can't think of his screenname for the life of me unfortunately.
