Special note to "f-body fan"--there wasn't anything wrong with the original thread poster's car. It was just the normal air pump noise. Have fun in your slow car-don't believe that nothing goes wrong with imported cars-they have problems too. I work in a repair shop and see it all the time.
And to the A/C "explosion"- the relief valve is located on the top of some compressors-the valve would have been venting from on top of the compressor giving the impression of it coming from the comp. itself. Once the valve starts venting do to an overpressure situation it can continue venting past the point of normal pressure.
As far as Toyota A/C systems-most imported A/C systems are notoriously poorly designed things that are no where near as good at cooling as a GM
    system.
I'm done with my repressed vent--thank you for bringing it back up!!

It sounds like Her SS got her problem solved, but my firebird was doing a similar thing. You'd start it up and get this annoying squeel for 2-3 minutes. Come to find out there was a crack in the hose between the pcv valve and the intake. Once the hose was replaced it was gone. FYI for anyone else out there.
