    Fans not turning on!!

been having a problem with the car heating up. i changed the thermostat and that didnt help. i checked the water pump and its not leaking. I also checked the head gasket and thats good too. I let the car sit at idle after running it hard and the fans didnt come on at all! I was just curious if you can just run a toggle switch for the fans to turn on and off?

More details please. What is your actual temperature? Can you access that with a scan tool? I think they won't be commanded on until 225 or so.

Turn on the AC and see if the fans come on.

the temp gauge usually goes a little past half way. but its weird cause when i go at high speeds and long distances it gets closer to the 7/8 mark.

You need to see your actual temperature. Could be a faulty gage/sending unit, air in your cooling system. Also, like Ed says see if they come on with AC on. They won't immediately, the high side of your AC must build some pressure first, so give the engine a 1500 or so high idle with your AC on to check the fans that way.

the temp stays around half way, a few degrees lower. you would think it would overheat all the time? no matter how far or fast you would go. why would it just go up after going at high speeds and long distances?

if your temp is going up during driving, or highway driving your air dam might be obsturcted, or your plastic lip on the bottom of the car could be missing or broken, I would remove the pushlocks at the bottom of the bumper, and remove all the bugs/leaves. etc... out of the radiator's panel. your car shouldt heat up while driving (instead it should cool down once you start gong over 40mph) unless you have a leak, bad thermostat, Air in the Radiator, Bad AC Condencer or Compressor, or broken Heater Core.

If the temp is still rising you could have a faulty Thermostat. and if you still smell Radiator Fluid try checking the heater core it might be broken.

Overheating while driving means your not getting airflow to the radiator or you have a headgasket failure. Radiator airflow comes from under the car. Its hits the air damn and shoots up through the AC condensor and radiator. do you still have an air damn? If so you can take off the upper rad support and see down the radiator to see if its all clogged up with dust, dirt, leaves, etc and clean it out.

took the car out and lasted about 20 miles until is basically hit the red zone! popped the hood and the radiator cap was bubbling pretty loud. i'm leaning towards a water pump but why isnt it leaking and why doesnt it overheat all the time?

follow the re-fill instructions given in the thermostat install
Air in the system will definately cause an overheat condition
