Ever heard of this....
A couple of guys I overheard said to use a couple gallons of high octane gas to clean out the carbs.....etc from our engines? Has anyone heard of this? What octane is just right for doing this? How many gallons? Any input would help.....Chris
2000 Arctic White trans am, ws6 hood, ws6 air box, slp lid, slp smooth bellows, slp loudmouth exhaust,shift kit, rebuilt trans, LS6 intake, 3.73 gears, Shaner S3 p/p throttle body, and a tune . SFC. C6 ZO6 rims 18" in back 17" in front. Drilled and slotted rotors.

the carbs?? I hope you mean carbON (singular) and not carbURETORS...either way, I don't know what octane would do for cleaning anything...I would suggest running premium 91-93 or whatever is available to avoid detonation and ensure the most performance. Detergents, and not resistance to detonation (octane), cleans. Unless someone here has some schoolin' in store for me...

most of the high octain 100+ stuff wont help your engine at all unless you have an engine that actually can use it.

I have talked to idiots that say they run one tank of 93 octane a year to clean out their fuel system.
I couldn't convince them it won't help at all. They never change their fuel filters either so go figure.

Silver- 2002 WS6 Trans Am
We've always used water to clean out carbon deposits. It is much easier to do on vehicles with carbs/top mount TBs, but will work on pretty well any engine. You don't use much at a time, but it will break loose the carbon and cause some grey smoke. Search for it on Google, it's a pretty common way to remove carbon.

seafoam will de-carbon any engine. You can get it at just about any parts store.

I read in a magazine about sucking a little tranny fluid into the pcv valve. the carbon absorbs the fluid and when the cylinder fires it shatters the carbon buildup. never tried it though. not sure if it would work with cats.

You have to pull the O2 sensor to clean it.
Not sure what would be best to use though.

to my knowledge you can't really clean an O2 sensor.

Tranny fluid works..heard of mixing low amounts of diesel fuel in the oil as well
