Engine swap help/question?
So i just had my 2001 ws6 T boned, and wanted to know if i could swap the engine into a same "gen" v6 firebird/camaro. and upgrade from there? note- the only reason i want to swap into a v6 version is because they are cheaper.

If the V6 has power options like your previous car, then take the PCM, BCM, wiring, engine and trans and swap everything over. HOWEVER, if the trannies are different between vehicles, you will need to install a clutch pedal if the recipient happens to be an automatic. I could be missing steps, but others will chime in. Let us know if ya need anymore help.

That's probably the easiest. Unless you can sit on your money till you can A- find a ls1 for what you have B- save till you have what you need. You can find ls1's cheap sometimes.

yeah but even a cheap ls1 camaro/trans am would be 7 large, and the thing is. there is a 2000 v6 camaro going for $700 right now so thats why i'm asking.

Hopefully that car is in good shape. That price seems awfully low for even a 6 cylinder bird in good shape.

you're probably going to spend the same amount of money on a engine swap and you'll end up losing a lot power... i'd check e-bay or even see about building a engine from a LQ9 or something out of a junk yard...

if you have you totaled car and the v6 swap car side by side the swap is going to be easy and wont cost you a dime once you buy the v6

You can not use the v6 tranys in any form.. All v6 F-body transmissions use the 60* v6 bell pattern..
A stock LSx would destroy a 5-spd trans in a few heart beats anyways.
Tho internally the v6 4l60e has the same guts as the lsx 4l60e, again the bell wont match..
You also can not use the v6 PCM unless you modify the pinouts/harness..
The BCM, from a loaded v6 may not be useable even if the WS6 was also loaded..
A swap over would require some work but it has been done many times over..
I see you desided to fix the WS6 anyways.. Prolly the better choice..Last edited by Smittro; 08-07-2011 at 12:02 PM.

Glad to see it worked out for you. Cutting and splicing should always be a last choice.
