Ive seen the motors pulled through the top and its not that bad. Remove all the accesories and the oil filter, lift motor and turn it sideways and they tend to come out very easily. AFR heads althoug a little more expensive, are way better heads IMO. And if its only a head/cam swap youre doing, Id do that in the car. Saves you from having to unbolt the tranny and such.

I pulled my motor out the bottom in a 1 car garage. It wasn't to bad, the car was pretty high off the ground to get the sub-frame, motor and tranny out. I just used a jack, some jack stands and blocks. Took maybe 7-8 hours with the limited tools I have. Wouldn't recommend if your just doing a top end though.

Hey man, I am with Orion on this subject. We did our heads and cam swap at the same time. I pulled my motor from the top and he did his in the car. I spent a WHOLE lot longer on the swap than I had to by pulling the motor. I did another heads/ cam swap a couple months later in the car and it only took a few days. Just go off of the LS1 howto site and take your time. I would recommend starting a thread and posting pics along the way and if you have any questions then we will know where to find ya.

Also if you are unsure of the same you want then just let us know what you expect out of a cam and we can point you in the right direction. Even better yet any company that you order a cam from will be upfront and honest with you on what to expect so you can ask them as well. After you get information from as many sources as you can then just sit back and compare notes and see what you think is best for you.
