Engine Identification
I just got into my new project, a 1999 T/A. We were replacing the cradle and had to pull the alternator when I noticed a 6.0L casting on the drivers side of the block. Can anyone help me identify this engine without pulling the motor? I also have no idea where the identifiers are located on the engine.
Please Help!

any block casting numbers I know of are usualy stamped on the back of the block near the top of the bell housing or possibly near the starter. The next best thing is to run teh casting numbers of the heads.

there is no casting #'s on the heads, the sides are just a machined surface. There is a "0113" cast into the block on the top just in from of the head on the passenger side though...

Well unfortunatly I can't really help here in decoding the number, but I did find this site http://www.mortec.com/ lists some locations and codes.

There also seems to be a "317" stamped into the aluminum head on the drivers side rear of the block.

now that does mean something IF I am reading the numbers right on the site listed above this is what they are
12562317...01-04...364..........Gen.III, 71cc, aluminum
that's all they on that site, there may also be a sticky in one of the other sections listing casting numbers.

I found out that "317" aluminum heads are on 2001+ LQ4 6.0L truck engines which I commonly swapped out for LS1 motors because they are much cheaper. Hopefully the person that installed this one before he ran it into a pole changed a few things instead of just installing a stock truck motor...
