engine bad on oil

my 99 trans am is sucking up about a qourt of oil every 3 weeks i heard that the 98-00 models had problems with intakes but can anyone tell me what to do? and there is no signs og oil leaks anywhere on the block

im running 5-30 right now but im going synthetic next oil change i just bought the about 2 months ago with 70000 miles

There are MANY synthetics out there and some are SHIT!!!

I would highly recommend you order a filter and oil from AMSOIL.
If you don't go that route I would buy a K&N filter and the Penzoil Platinum.

They are NOT what they once were!! Yes they are a ok oil but there are MANY that use alot better base let alone additives.
For the money Mobil cost you can get MUCH better.

How many miles on the car?? Either weight is fine, I run 10w-40 full synthetic in mine.

The oil consumption issue is probably due to the crappy PVC system. The issue is that the LS1 has some ridiculously high manifold vacuum at the PCV port under engine braking, which sucks oil right past the PCV and into the engine. I converted over to breather filters on mine (just put breathers on each PCV port) and the oil consumption normal now.

Amsoil use to buy there base stock from Mobil...Mobil lost the factory when Katrina hit....If you think Mobil is not worth it I can assure you Amsoil is no better.

Seafoam wont do anything for oil consumption...odds are its the rings and you are burning the oil. I bought a catch can and it helps but it wont solve the problem...I go through the same amount, maybe a little less using 10w30 syn. I also think seafoam is hard on the seals and instead of buring the oil it will start leaking on your driveway.

Well I have to strongly disagree. Due to the nice oil consumption in the intake charge it makes the ring lands get packed with carbon and oil which makes the rings stick. So by sucking the SeaFoam it breaks down all the shit in the ring lands. I haven't had any issues with oil leaks! Maybe if you were dumb enough to dump a whole can in the oil.......

The Amsoil XL line is group 3. Not really synthetic.

Mobil 1 is group 3 it appears as well. A really thin one at that. My car used to consume oil when I used Mobil one. Switched to Redline and that stopped. I use German Castrol (thick 30 wt) now, no consumption issues.

Seafoam will not do anything to break down hard carbon. All seafoam does is make a smoke show. I have tried it myself....AUTORX is a better way to go and the catch can I use traps a few ounces of oil not a few quarts.
