    Electric Fan?

I had my '98 t/a out for a while today and noticed a sound coming from around the rear end. It sounds like an electric motor or a cooling fan, only makes the noise after driving for a while, and does it at all speeds and rpm. Any ideas?

Don't know...maybe the fuel pump? Turn key to run without starting, you should hear it prime...see if it sounds the same.

Yeah thats exactly what it does. Key on-makes the sound for about 2 secs, then not again till running. Pretty sure thats what it is. I bought it with a 3 month warranty and that is covered so I'll have it fixed next week. 60,xxx is awfully low mileage for a fuel pump.

Sounds like the pump....it's a internal pump so try not to let the gas get too low, it uses the gas to cool off. I usually refill around 1/4 tank...

Glad you have a warranty - expensive fix. Be nice to whoever may have to replace the pump and don't go in with a full tank since they'll have to drop it. And like the previous poster said, always refill around 1/4. Must be really loud to hear it with the car running.

Yeah like I said, it sounds like a loud electric fan. It's down to 1/4 tank, so do you think a fill up will quiet it down or should I just have it fixed.

You can put a few gallons in and see if there's any change, but with a warranty I'd have them check it out. Can't hear mine at all with the car running.
