    Dying Camaro...need advice!

My parents are gonna have a hissy fit...and force me to sell the car...unless I finally figure out whats wrong with it... they changed the SparkPlugs and Wires... yet it still has a horrible missfire... last time the Mechanic checked... #2, 6 and 8...where duds(lots of missfires)... and all but #1 had missfired at least a few times... he changed the wires and the problem went away for all of a coulple of hours... then it stalled out on me (it's Automatic)... and well my next guess would be COILS.. but I'm not sure...

Please if you have any sort of opinion on what it could be let me know... cause I'm desperate... I don't have a JOB yet... and it's all coming out of their pocket... and even if I finally fix it... they might still try to get me to sell it... so...any help will be very apreciated

ok...check the plugs again....but this is what me n my friends did when that same problem happened....
1.TURN ON THE CAR AND OPEN THE HOOD.
2.NOTICE THE ENGINE MISFIRING ....START UNPLUGGING EACH WIRE FROM THE COIL ONE AT A TIME ,WHILE REMOVING A PLUG..IF THE PROBLEM GETS WORSE ..ITS NOT THAT COIL...IF THE MISFIRING DIDNT CHANGE..just might be that coil...coils cost like 50 bucks at auto zone...unless you want to go all performanced out and buy msds(but for what)...if its none of the above..then must be bad gas...try changing the filter..its like 3 bux...oh and check the fuel pressure....uhmmm check the plugs again!

I have stock exhaust...but no Cats... and um... I'm gonna take it to the mechanic today...he goes tecnological and checks the car with a Snap-On scanner... tells him what every individual cilinder is doing...so I guess he'll figure it out... (I'm hoping it doesn't have to do with the rear O2s going to shit)...I'll tell him thank you...and go put em on myself...

around here Coils are $70+tax... which still kinda sucks...and um... the Fuel Filter was changed a Year ago...after doing a Seafoam Fuel system cleaner... so it should still be clean...I always pump 93 oct. Shell gasoline... so it's good gas

Post the codes you are throwing, your rear 02's wouldnt cause issues as you are describing. All the rear 02's do is read your cat effiency. Just makes sure they are doing there job. But since you dont have cats it shouldnt matter.

Pull the plugs on those cylinders and check them out, also check the wires again to ensure they werent melted or damaged. One more thing, if you can get your car to op. temps. At night take a look at the misfiring cylinders exhaust manifold. I had a Rs that kept melting plug wires and i couldnt figure it out until i started it at night. Saw my manifold glowing orange. Replaced two injectors and the problem was solved.
Autozone was happy, I bought lifetime wires so i kept taking them back lol.

No, a engine shouldn't misfire running on open headers unless the knock sensor goes crazy or something like that, but the timing and functionality of the ignition parts is what makes a car misfire or not

Have your mechanic do a compression test to see if any of your valves are bent. I guarantee you that you have bent valves.

I bet you he has these codes M.A.F. SENSOR, THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR, AND MAP SENSOR. By the way the knock sensor has nothing to do with what you are talking about. You can run the car with open header's and no exhaust, back pressure does not come into play there. HIS VALVES ARE BENT. Tell this young man to do a compression test on his ride

I've seen cars with Bent Valves before...and this ain't it... no such codes for MAF, Throtel or Map... just Random Missfire codes...

Yeah, Heaven's Forbid you should listen to the peeps that are payin the bills and supporting ya JKing man
Have someone that KNOWS look at it. You can toss alot of cash and parts and STILL not fix it...
    Your car, your call..
I don't know what you have for part stores out your way, but alot of them can / will pull codes for free, if you can get someone too, post them up here, myself and lots of the guys know what the codes mean or can help you figure out what they might be.. and all that help is free
    Free + Help = Good.
I have almost ALL of the OBD II codes here and I would be happy to tell ya what they translate into (not all of them tho, some manufacturers wont list them )

I'm trying... but the closest mech. is a dumbass... that barely knows how to work his scanning too... and the car.. right now pretty much can't be moved...runnin like it is...(literally seems to be missing 4 cilinders)...

the other Mechanic offered to bring a Toe Truck...and work on it...

Man that sucks, Hmm if you had a bit more liquid cash I would say snag a reader yourself, hell I got one I keep in the car that does almost any OBDII car/truck and resets most codes. Think it cost me 100 bucks. Damn good investment, used it four or five times this year on buddies cars, ( couple of em even paid me a few bucks - not that I would take it) Not much I can offer ya at this point.
    Sorry bro

if you have misfires on one bank unplug all O2 sensors , check for a difference
i had an issue with pushrods being bent/broken.. pull pushrods from affected cyls. and inspect... you can run a compression test as well,
also..... slight but possible.... test for intake leaks on that bank, look to make sure you didnt blow a fuse.. if one bank down..test to see what you dont have .. fuel.. or spark
have Shleppy hold the spark plug wire when ya crank....

    is this a 6M or 4A car?
it's A4... I actually checked the Intake...it was the first thing I did... it was fine... I'll make sure to check the O2's and stuff... I doubt the engine would've been busted up... never really misstreated it (too much...always within it's limits)

test the spark, run a fuel injector balence test, to make sure all injectors can/ are firing
and preform a compression test,,, you only need air, fuel and spark,,, what are you missing?
