which "drive" do i use ?
hey guys i'm a noobie but always wondered: on my 99 z28 there's the P, N, [D], D, 2, 1 gears....Which "drive" gear should i use when driving? i usually use the [D] drive but recently ive tested the D under that one and it actually seems more responsive on the gas....for example: while on [D], the 3-4 shift change is very long....but while in D, the car is more responsive to the gas pedal, and the 3rd to 4th gear is more more responsive on the gas....i hope im making sense, lol. thanks. Just a general explanation of the gears would be nice. thanks

Black / White- '00 T/A M6/'19 Hemi Truck
D with the square around it is over drive which is a good thing...better mpg and better driveability on the road.
If you want to cruise around at higher rpms or have some fun and go through the gears then use the D with no square around it...no over drive so expect it to shift a little harder and to get worse mpg's.2000 Black TA M6 - LT's, ORY, UMI Short Stick, TT2's, Drilled/Slotted Rotors, Braided Lines, and Tuned by Vengeance SCCA and Car Show Approved

Silver & Blue- 02 Camaro SS, 04 GTO
[D] is this only one to use unless you are manually shifting or need a lower gear for some reason. If you are shifting gears a lot please install a trans cooler if you haven't already.

Sometimes I throw it into D when going through the canyons. But for normal highway driving etc... [D] is preferable for the reasons stated above.

I pull ours back into Drive going down our hill. Other than that, I generally keep it in [D] almost everywhere else.
