why would you wanna disable the auto headlights? i think they're a good feature. id like to disable the daytime running lights though, but unfortunately theres no way to do that without also disabling the auto headlights.

I'm sure the BFH would work too.

The sensor in the dash is basically a variable resistor and the resistance changes with different light conditions. If you put a fixed resistor in place of the sensor it should keep the auto lights from coming on. You'll need to find the resistance for lighted conditions and put a resistor in with the same ohm reading.
I've never done this though because I like the auto light feature...but it should work.......

I'm on vacation now (don't know wire color), but on my 02 it was a simple one wire snip.(from the sensor previously mentioned) if interested will post when I get home.

I bought a McCulloch HID kit that plugs right into the factory plug. When I turn my headlights on they don’t always get 12 volts so sometimes (actually most of the time) only one light turns on and I have to flick them on an off to get the other one to turn on.
When I turn on my car at night and the auto-headlights engage I cannot flick my headlights on and off to get both my HID’s to come on unless I turn off my car. That’s pretty annoying. I looked at a link someone recommended in this post about the “DRL” unit and I unplugged one of the inputs (it’s the one with the blue I believe). Doing this disengaged my running lights, auto-headlights, and the light in my dash that tells me my E-brake is till on.
Is that resistor mod hard to do? Is there a post on it anywhere? How about that wire snip? Thanks guys.

you don't even need any resistor actually.. un do you dash pad...you must remove your a pillers first....remove the light sensor and short the two wires together....reference this link http://www.xse.com/leres/ss/images/drl-s2-sm.html and you see wire A and B is shorted...pontiac actually has a cool jumper wire with a plug on the end to disable the auto headlights..i actually ordered the sensor as i wanted auto headlight

Pewter- 1999 Camaro SS-M6 #1775
Just leave the E-brake up ONE click ( till it shows up on the dash). thats the simplest way to do it. The Auto Headlights should not come on.

ok hows this ---- leave in your sensor and in addition wire in a simple toggle switch in (open\close)...wire in one side to 'a-1137' and the other to 'b-1137'..what that do well now you have a manual override...close the connection auto lights disabled... open the connection auto lights controlled via sensor..reference this link http://www.xse.com/leres/ss/images/drl-s2-sm.html.. my job is done

Firebirds just have a jumper in place of the sensor (except in Canada).
They can add the functionallity by adding the sensor if they like.
