Dipstick broke
I just bought a 2002 collectors edition trans am and just discovered that the oil dipstick is broke off at the handle and probably down in the tube, we can't see in there. How hard is it to get the whole tube off? Do you have to remove the exhaust? Can you get to it from underneath the car? Thanks in advance for your help.

There is one bolt that holds it to the head. After you take that out, the dipstick just pulls straight out.
As for a replacement, just go to a junkyard and pull off a dipstick.

Can you get to it easily or do you have to remove the the manifold to get to it? Everything looks tight down in there. We haven't put it up on a rack yet to see if we can get to it easily from the bottom.

Solution: Magnet on a long rod or a long grabber. You can find them in tool stores may even have them @ auto parts.. Then you can send it down the tube and retrieve you dip stick..lol
Suggestion: If you are particularly irritated by another member's posting habits and are constantly fighting the urge to flame them, you can click on that person's profile, and select "Add to ignore list." This will make that person's posts invisible to you.

Here one of these. Sometimes they're just nice to have.. There are also remote grabbers that have tiny jaws that come out of their tube to get into tight places..

We ran a wire down in in the dipstick tube and it didn't seem to have anything down in it. We were thinking the stick was broke off down in there ya know. Whoever changed the oil last just put the broken off handle back on top to make it look like it had a stick. So we were somewhat relieved.
