    Damm squeaky belts !!!

it started as a VERY annoying squeak at start up. I had just got my bird used, 2000 formula. LOTS of nit picky things to fix. I am taking care of all the problems one by annoying one. I finally get around to the belt. It had the original belt and at 130,000 miles I thought it was a sure thing that a new belt would take care of the squeak. Well, yes and no. The new belt, Gates, did lessen the squeak but did not eliminate it. I had read in another thread that it might be a pulley. The LS1 has 4 bearing pulleys, main tensioner, main idle, a/c tensioner, a/c idler. I did not think the tensioner needed replacing on the main or the a/c, both were plenty strong, so I ordered a main tensioner pully from rock auto. When I took off the pulley I was surprised at how worn out the bearing was, so I ordered the remaining pulleys.

all the following are DAYCO numbers

    89015 main tensioner pulley
    89058 main idler pulley.....note....1st design
89159 main idler pulley ..............2nd design
    89135 a/c................ the a/c uses the same pulley.....get 2

now the fun began, the 2000 yr marked a change in pulley and bracket design on the main idler pulley and altenator bracket, a mid yr changeover. It is addressed in a TSB March 2000 reguarding belt noise. The GM part number for the new design pulley and bracket are 12563326 and 12563327. The old style pulley will not fit on the new bracket (ask me how i know) the difference is the size of the bearing in the pulley, it is wider than the old style, the pulley is still the same size. It seems no one carries the DAYCO 89159 so I had to special order thru the pimp boys. So check your miles and dont give a second thought to some new pulleys
