Custom '55 Chevy with LS1- need some help

I have a '55 chevy 3100 with an LS1, and can not determine the proper amount of oil it requires. (I know it's 5.5-6.0qrts for an LS1 with f-body oil pan, but please read on)

Here are the facts: LS1 from an 02 camaro; as some of you may, or may not know, some of the 02 camaro's got the LS6 block...my engine falls into this category. It has a lokar aftermarket dipstick for an LS1 and a stock f-body oil pan. I pulled the dipstick (tube and all) and measured from end of the tube to the low and full mark- same as another LS1 Lokar dipstick that I was able to get my hands on.

Now for the delimma: It has 6 quarts and is only at the "fill" mark on the dipstick, suggesting it is still a quart low. Is it possible the LS6 block requires a different dipstick than the standard LS1? Could it be an internal engine issue...poor drain back or something else?

I'm really pulling my hair out over this! Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, put half a quart in the filter and the engine got the remaining 5.5 qrts- 6.o qrts total.

according to the GM parts catalog on GMpartsdirect.com, the dipstick and the dipstick tube are the same part number for 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002 LS1 f-bodies.
I'm guessing you'll have to remark your dipstick. I've had to do that in the past with aftermarket dipsticks and tubes.

So I should disregard the current dipstick markings and make my own? Is six quarts appropriate?
