    Crunching Noise ??

    I just bought a 2000Z A4, it has 56K kms.

It seems to have developed a crunching noise between the drivers seat and the hatch when I go over rough surfaces.

Anyone got any ideas on what imay be causing it?

    My life is a
    Ben Stiller movie.

that's the most ambigous question i've ever read...
    1. have someone else drive and you chill in the back seat to pinpoint the sound
    2. what is a "rough surface" and stop driving over them?
    3. cruching like what? metal on metal? plasticy? springy? scraping? rattling?

i just get this image of you driving over big rocks and the rear pumpkin is slammin' off of rocks?

could be inside panels [they always rattle] could be big or small, but i'd suggest having a closer look [listen] yourself.

Are you asking what an A4 is? A4=automatic 4 speed. I'm confused

prolly b/c he's new to LS1's and their workings. he prolly thought it could be common with a4's so he just posted it incase it was relevant info. don't be dicks to a guy who is just asking a question.

    Thanks

    To everyone that replied Thanks.

First, I mentioned the trans because I didn't know if it could possibly be the mount.

Second, no chance any one else is going to drive the car. Waited way too long to finally be able to get it. So, I have to do the diagnosis while I drive.

Up here in Canada the roads can all be considered a rough surface compared to the US. You guys are lucky to have such great highways.

I believe the noise may be coming from underneath the plastic panel between the rear wheel well and the dirver's door. I am going to pull it out the first chance I get.

Any ideas on how to stop the plastic panels from rattling? (over and above tighten the screws)

Could it possibly be a loose speaker? (has any body had such a problem?)

Sorry if i sounded like a dick. As far as a serious answer, there are so many things in our LS1s that can squeak, rattle, crunch, whatever....and the space "between the drivers seat and the hatch" is as big as Texas when trying to pinpoint a noise. But the closest thing to a "crunch" I've had in my car is a badly seated rear spring. I fixed it, but it still crunches a little in cold weather. That's my shot in the dark on this one.

Woo that's funny...try driving down to Sacramento, the roads here contribute to road rage i tell you

Anyway, it could be the speaker...check it out
