Cracked Block..what to do?
I have a 5.7L 6-Speed V8 in my Camaro with a crack on the block where the starter bolts on. I haven't decided what the most economical route would be: whether replacing the engine with a new one, having it rebuilt with a new block, or buying an LS6 Block and converting it, or replacing it with a new (NON LS1) engine entirely.
If I upgrade the motor how much horsepower can the fractory transmission handle?
If I go the LS6 Route rebulid how much different is the build and what can I use from my stock LS1 motor?

Jetstream Blue Metallic- 2008 Z06 Corvette
If you decide to go with a new motor, and do as I did, and figure it may as well be a LS6, then get it from crateenginedepot and have a 405Hp Z06 engine in your F Body. That was my starting point. Thay sell em all day for $3300.00 bucks with a warranty! Most of the stuff bolts right up, BUT no it won't be like buying a pair of shoes and just slipping your feet in and going home. You didn't say what year your car is, but if you already have the LS6 manifold, all the better. if your LS1 isn't tired yet, you could always just buy a LS6 block. Or find a local shop that has the means to simply fix your prob. Start with a local Vette performance shop that is familiar to working with aluminum blocks, or knows where to point you. Good luck!
