    coolant leaking into ac system?

when i turn on the ac it smells like coolant. i turned it to heat and the smell is overwhelming. the car is running fine, not overheating, not overflowing. when you open the hood nothing smells, everything appears to be fine. but i don't know what the hell is happening? i mean it just started this a few days ago and can't be good. anyone else have this happen?

I don't know about price, but if you have basic hand tools you might be able to do it yourself. The heater core sits behind your glove box.

normally yes. on most cars it involves removing the dash. the heater core itself is typically a 30 dollar part but the labor is pretty involved.

The labor isn't the problem with this on a later model F-body. It's not very difficult to do this yourself if you are handy with the tools. It's located behind the glovebox, getting to the heater hoses is the harder part on some of these (LS1 for example, the V-6 is easier to get to if I remember right). On some cars it's alot harder- but not on these.
