    convertible conversion

you know ive seen auto - m6 conversions and hardtop - t-top conversions but ive never seen a t-top -convertible conversion done, now i know that somewhere someone has done it and im curriouse about it. If anyone knows somewhere i can find info on this please post it. Im looking for a 98-02 firebird conversion but im sure it would be the same for a camaro... might be fun reading
    thanks

T-top to ACTUAL convertible... Or T- Top to targa?

Vette hard tops arent too hard to convert (in the world of doing something of this magnitude), but i cant even imagine a camaro....

I think you have lost your mind...

    yup...

i've seen pics of a camry converted ... umm ... lol ... why? you need a lot more bracing/different rear bulkhead/etc. to pull off what you're thinking. can be done but def. not a small job like a t-top conversion.

I dont even know if it can be done... the trunk hinges completely different... Im not sure what kind of structural things were done... the area behind the back seat is completely different...

Short of getting a donor and cutting it up and moving all the parts into a t-top... but then i question y not just fix up the already drop top...

Give it up... If you want to read something interesting go to http://www.luckypuppyoddfacts.com/

dudes, I wouldn't knock down a guy who wants to try something new. Just give him enough info so he realizes what sort of undertaking it really is.

That said, GM never made a 3rd gen 'vert, they were all converted coupes, so ya it can be done but is it worth all the trouble and expense doing it?

I'm going to assume you meant 2nd gens and not 3rd gens....

    What you said...

    What i think you mean

    2nd gens had TRUNKS.....

It was just a matter of cutting off the top and making a canvas top for it... Not near the work that converting a 4th gen would be...

No I actually did mean the 3rd gen. GM didn't design and build a 'vert inhouse, they were all coachbuilder conversions that GM commisioned ASC to build ... http://www.3rdgenformula.com/all%20y...rior_to_91.htm ... Has info about that all the way at the bottom just in case you didn't want to read it all.

with tim effort and tools anything can be done......try dumbing your search down by doing a search for "how do I cut the roof off my car" or something like that
