Common for Oil Pump to go out?

I was wondering if its common for our cars to have the oil pump go out? I have no oil pressure in my car, and was hoping that its just the oil pump! Any help is greatly appreciated
    I have a 99' TA with 62k

Well I would start with hoping it was just the gauge or sending unit

As far as I know it is not common for them to fail. I personally have a 98 LS1 which is supposed to have the worst oil flow with 196,000 miles on the stock oil pump.

I was going to post something about oil pressure also. I have a 99 TA also. I've only had the car for a few weeks now and every once in awhile my oil pressure dips way down. Anyone have any insight?

Hope for your sake its the gauge or sending unit. Have you had the intake manifold out for any reason? The sending unit gets broke VERY easily when swapping to a LS6 intake.
I would get a mechanical gauge first thing before I drove it again unless ,like I said, you did an intake swap which would mean for sure you broke the sending unit.
