Cold Start problems?
ok, my 99 camaro is having problems starting cold lately. i start it in the garage and let it warm up before i goto work, and have no problems starting in the garage. but when the car sits outside all night at work, and i goto start it to warm it up before my trip home, i hit the key, it starts runs for a second then dies. then i hit the key again and it runs as long as i want it to. i have never had this problems until 3days ago. i have always turned the key to the on position for a few seconds before cranking to allow the fuel pump to kick in, and also its just habit to turn it to run for a few seconds before starting. but im puzzled on why it only does it cold. its not throwing a code or anything either. any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance steve

This is easy.
You have what's called a "fuel pump resistor" that hides but gets hit by the occasional salt spray and incidental road noise.
Piece of cake to replace.
Please be sure to put silicone grease on the connector.
There is a way to bypasss it but I don't recommend it.

so in essence, the fuel pump isnt kicking in sometimes due to corrosion? where exactly is the resistor for my fuel pump, and how much will it set me back? but if it was going out, wouldnt it do this starting problem all the time?

Oh, this is a highly intermittent problem until it dies altogether. I can't seem to pull my Helm's manuals up on this server but the last I recall it's hidden in the right front of the car kind of tucked under the fenderwell. Someone around here can surely help out with a picture.
GM did not put this in all the cars but we find it. Reason was to let the fuel pump run at a slower speed until the PCM commanded high volume fuel delivery.
