Coil Pack Question

Hey i have a 2000 camaro, and i got a weak coil, im replacing them with new coils will GM part number (GM 12573190) fit my car? i need to know ASAP and if not what will fit? i want something new

the little research i did it looks like those are LS2 coils. It looks like the can work but the produce more power. What I found out is this coils has a different bracket. So you might need to get the bracket to make work and the rest of your other coils will be different than this one. I don't know if that will create issues.

The LS1 coils are really good and reliable. I will just replace it with a OEM one. The LS1 coil is actually cheaper than the one you want.

In Gmpartsdirect.com(one of our sponsors) it lists 12573190 for $56.10
The OEM LS1 coil is listed for $47.59

Well I guess i should of said I meant to replace them all. With new ones since the car has 101k as long as they will work I'm buying 8

I see i will make sure that they will work with the car without needing a tune. So far what i read they should work but you might need a bracket to install them.

Stock coils are absolutely fine. They can also run for much longer than 100,000 miles. I would simply replace the defective unit and keep on driving. Just think, compared to the good old days when 1 coil fired 8 plugs -- at 100,000 miles your coils actually have 1/8 the actual use.

thats what im thinking too. Coils don't go bad for a long long time.

I dont know if you guys ever watch speed channel, but there is is a show called 2 guys garage, they worked on a 40k c5 and it already had two weak coils.. just saying.

correct. I have heard of the vettes having issues with coils early. Not sure whats going on there. I haven't heard an F body having issues with coil packs that early. But these are electrical components and they can fail due to alot of reasons. The electrical system and the manufacture processs are some factors that play on the durability of the coils.

It's up to you to decide which route you will like. I haven't heard of any member (not yet) that had replaced their coil packs with LS2 type. Like i mentioned before it appears that the LS2 coil pack will work but they will need a bracket to get them install. just make sure that you confirm they are compatible before you buy them. Most electronics parts can't be returned.

well i bought them with wires, and the bracket and 8 new Ls2 coils, ill post pictures once they are in. Then its time for the dreaded sparkplug change.

Let us know how it goes. I will like know if are plug and play. the plugs are not too bad if you have the coils out.

The connectors are the same, i did some research on another site(sorry guys) and it seems to be a pretty common swap over. The plugs are bad if you have man sized arms... i need a anorexic girl to do the passenger side.

I used to use my niece or son to reach in those spots prior to LT's, now no longer an issue

I also agree with this.. Stock coil replacements are fine, as they have no moving parts.. Many times it's the windings that become weak or damaged over time from time and the elements.. Not a common problem persay but it definetly can happen..

Am replacing them with stock ls2 coils.. I don't get why no one understands my coils are ten years old and have been driven for 100k.. Why would I replace one when they are all old, I figure I would just be a step ahead in the long run.. It's not like a super crazy idea
