On these cars, typically you know if the cats are not as efficient is from the co-eds (I mean codes!). You know, this thread needs pix. Another way would be if the car failed a tailpipe emission test and all the electronics tested ok.

Your mileage takes a dive, you hear rattling in the exhaust, pieces of the catalyst are exiting your tailpipes, rear O2's are triggering the SES... all common signs.

On the other code? does any body know what the clutch switch does? on m6 cars? thanks for all the help you guys.

Also were can i get the 02 and emissions tune out for 50 bucks?
Don't buy new ones, you already have 2 new ones.

Put the new ones up front and put the old front ones out back.

They are the same sensors,if your getting the rears tuned out you just need to fill the holes with the old sensors.

well i have a weird sound coming from my exhaust. It sounds like water cracking or popping, and you can see water in the exhaust and leaking were the band claps are at? want kind off sign is that?

^^^I bet he won't get very many views anymore lol!

Reaper, water is a normal byproduct of combustion. It is normal to see some around small leaks. Big amounts, tho, along with white exhaust smoke, is not.

^^ Agree. Our car will put 3 different puddles on the floor as it warms up. Once the exhaust becomes hot enough, the water will not condense and will exit the tail pipes as steam.

    ^^^here's my prediction:

Once you get the new O2 sensors installed, and the code cleared, everything will be fine for a week or 2. Then, you will get the catalyst code again, same bank.

Because a catalyst efficiency code won't set unless the PCM checks and verifies the integrity of the O2 sensors first. Now I suppose there are rare cases where the PCM thinks the O2s are healthy, but really are not, but I haven't personally seen it while repairing these codes. I used to make a living diagnosing the money light (check engine, SES), as we sometimes call it.

GM extended the cat warranty to 120K miles or 10 years, I have 113K on mine and the in service date is 9/11, so next time I get a P0430 code, I am taking it to GM for the free new cat(s).

If you are under 120K and 10 years, your cats are covered. Call you freindly local GM stealership, give them the vin and they will confirm coverage. They will charge $85 if the cats are good for the labor.

nice! well i finally install my oxygen sensors and let me tell you they were a bitch!!! i had to go to auto zone to buy the oxygen socket. I now officially hate oxygen sensors!! there worthless POS!! i don't know what gm was thinking in my opinion the smog control is the biggest down fall on f-body's. But on the good side in my MIND! the car runs better, it does not smell like gas anymore. The SES light is still on but i'm thinking is do to my other codes, either way i'm taking it to my local autozone to get it scan to be sure. Wish my luck. If not im calling GM!

Front O2s are quite necessary on our cars, as with any late model car, as they are responsible for the A/F ratio. The rear O2s only tell the PCM if the cats are working, but will not effect how the car runs, and merely trigger the SES light as a result.

And you can thank the government for smog equipment. It's their regulations that require the auto manufacturers to install them, and many places to test it's functionality.
