Passenger side cat inefficiency - usually means the cat is bad. Lots of posts here for P0420 (drivers side) and P0430.

i dont know why that code is showing up on the scanner when i just had it smogged and it passed with flying colors?

VERY common for our cats to go bad, and if your car is less than 10 years old and has under 120,000 miles, you can take it to a dealer and get it replaced at no cost to you, it's basically a 'recall' even though GM just states they extended the 'warranty'. If you're not under the warranty...then you get to spend some money on cats....

Unfortunately for the OP I think the extended GM warranty only applies to the 00-02 cars. Won't hurt to ask though...

Yep, I think you're right...and it's just about time up for the 00 models as well...had GM actually let people know of this problem and performed a true recall...but oh wait, they were too busy spending billions of dollars they didn't have, so they couldn't possibly have paid for something like that....

Call a dealership and ask anyway, California has stricter rules. Maybe Pelosi put it in the stimulous bill. LOL Seriously, people from non-emission states take them off all the time when doing headers, won't hurt to post the the parts wanted section.

i would love to take them off and run long tube headers with slp exhaust, but its not worth taken all that crap off every 2 years for smog... california is gay when it comes to that stuff!

My car is a 01 SS with 188k miles. When I called the dealer they gave me the usual bullshit story about it not being covered blah blah blah. I left the cats in place and just had them gutted. Fuck ALL dealerships in the ass with a mop handle. Theyre the reason I will NEVER buy a brand new vehicle from any of them.

So just how long do you feel a part should be replaced for free??

The car is 9 years old and close to 200k, what would you give away if you were a dealer??

Oh yeah.....P0430 is bank 2 O2 sensor, bad cat, or an exhaust leak
