GM considers this a normal condition. We see it more in full size trucks but basically what is happening is the driveshaft is moving normally in the tail shaft. The years have caused the lubricants to dry out so the yolk, while moving the same as it did before, just makes noise. Change your rear end fluid and lube the slip yolk and you should be ok.

First check your trans mount. That will cause clunking if its broken or severely worn out.
Check your u-joints in the driveshaft as well. Make sure they don't have any play in them. If everything checks out, the noise is probably originating from the axles. Wear and tear on the rear causes the axles to become loose in the carrier, so that there is play between the splines of the axle and the splines in the carrier. This can cause the clunking noise that you are hearing from the rear. Not much you can do about it, seems that its common to most 10 bolt rears in both trucks and cars.

the trans mounts are famous for going out.....I'd definitely check it.
