    cleaning gasket off of block

    What did you guys use to clean the old gasket off of the block. im swappin heads and ive already used an ice scraper on it but it doesnt seem to get all of it off. any suggestions?

    I used a wire wheel on a drill. You have to be very careful using this technique though.

    i bought some gasket remover and ive already used a plastic ice scraper. is it ok for the block to still be color of gasket? and there are a couple of spots on each side of the block that arent smooth like the rest of it even tho ive scraped at it and used a scoth bright pad

    Wire wheel on an aluminum block is a bad idea. Especially the head gasket.

    I usually gently use a sharp razor blade like this to get the big stuff off:


    Then a Scotch bright pad like this to finish up the cleaning:

    tape off your cylinders if you're using scotch brite pads. that grit will find its way to your bearings.
