Check gauges?!?!?
To make a long story short and to get to the question I will tell you my situation, a long time ago my power steering pump blew out and shorted out my alternator. So i had to purchase several alternators until we finally found out why the alternator was shorting out. (because the power steering pump was leaking onto it) Now I noticed that when my key is in the accessories position (that is forward but not with the car running) the check gauges light stays on and my votage meter reads extremly low! Everything still works headlights, radio, etc........ Does anyone else show this? I can't remember if when i bought the car new if it did this or not. Maybe you can look on your trans am and try it and let me know, Thanks chris

Yes it will say that all the time... b/c it reads the guages and they are mostly all in a bad area --- since the car is off. As long as it turns off when you start it up you are fine. And the voltage meter is low b/c the alternator isnt doing anything.
