Charging at W.O.T., Missing at high RPM Won't shif

I am having a problem with my Z28, When I'm at about quarter throttle, The car drives fine, shifts fine. When I step on the gas from any speed, my charge gauge goes from thirteen down to almost zero, and the engine bogs, and the transmission won't shift out of whatever gear I am in..... Alternator??? Massive short?? anyone else run into a problem like this??? Help please....

sounds like the alternator, go get it tested. if your trans doesnt get the proper voltage then it wont shift or work worth a damn

Yeah, thanks, i never even thought of getting it tested... I tested it for voltage, but couldn't test it under a load.... They can do that a parts shop though right?

Definately alternator, I just mine a couple weekends ago... my voltage didn't drop as bad as yours under load, but I drive an M6, so no electronic shifting.

YUp mine did the same. just take it to your local auto parts store and they should be able to test it.

Mine charges fine, but if I rev it to like 4-5k then it will drop down a bit. Alternator is a couple of months old from GM so Im thinking a new belt or tensioner is in order.

I think i found the problem.... I was getting ready to take out the alternator, when i found some wires pinched between the alternator and the cooling lines, I removed them and wow! what difference, My car still discharges at w.o.t. , but not to zero like it was, now it's at about eight, I'm thinking the voltage regulator is shot from shorting for so long.... I will just replace the alternator this weekend.... Thanks again for your help.... I love this site: luvlove:
