    changed spark plug wires..

okay, so i bought a new set of wires from summit, they were the taylor .409 wires (10.4mm or something absurd), but when i took the old wires off, on each wire on the SPARK PLUG END the metal cylinder with a spring at the end came off with the wire. im assuming this is some sort of heat shield or something but i did not put it back on because the new wires do not fit into these metal cylindrical heat shield things. i am not sure if that is okay or not, and any input would be great. i am hoping these wires are durable enough to not melt, but there awfully close to the exhaust. thanks for any help

Those sound like the heat shields. I don't run them on my car. No problems. If you are concerned about the wires being too close, you could always pick up some heat shield tape and wrap them.

right....not needed. I know on msd wires you can just bend the shit out of the boot to give you more clearance for the exhaust.
