Mount the airbags above the axle, and your hot rod will knock the fillings out of your teeth on rough stretches of road. Move the bags ahead of the axle and closer to the suspension pivot points, and you gain a mechanical advantage, which results in less air pressure needed to suspend the vehicle and a softer ride. Larger airbags also require less air pressure than smaller bags to carry the same amount of weight, but you can only upsize the bags so much before you run out of space to mount them. A cantilever-style suspension is the plush-riding, space-saving answer.
