8 Ounces is what my book says here, assuming you flush the system out, and assuming the new compressor doesn't have oil in it already.

Depending on where you get your compressor, they sometimes have oil, and sometimes they don't. I've even had some where the manufacture recommended draining the oil in the brand new compressor and refill with proper oil for the system. Recently went through that scenario in my 79 pickup truck.

A little tip when filling a dry compressor (I usually put 3-4 ounces in to start) is to turn the compressor on it's clutch/pulley and let it sit like that for a few minutes. Then turn the compressor over by hand several times to work the oil throughout. This way it doesn't have a dry start.

I usually put the rest of the oil in through the charge.

what do you mean adding oil in through the charge
would it hurt the system if you added to much

the kit i bought came with compressor,condenser,filter/dryer,orifice tube,8oz of oil,o-rings and shrader valves so im gonna dump out whats in the compressor if any and can i put the full 8oz bottle that came with the kit in the compressor? thanks sorry but one more question what should the pressures be on a lets say 80degree day
