    Broken window

Hey everyone I'm new here. And have recently purchased an 02 Firebird with t tops. Last night it got down to about fifteen twenty degrees and started to snow. When I realized it was snowing I went outside to put my car in the garage and when I opened the drivers door the window fell into the car and shattered all over the inside of the car. Has anyone else ever seen this happen, or what could of maybe caused this to happen? This car is in very good shape with only 29k miles and never been beat on. There is no other damage to the car so I don't think someone sabbotaged it but i'm not really sure. Any help that you guys could come up with would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to put a new window in this car with out knowing what caused this to happen.

The window broke outside when I opened the door, to pull it in the garage.

I'm at a total loss. I've been a mechanic for almost eight years at my dads shop that he's been running for twenty four years. And no one can come up with an explanation for this. You don't think I need sub frame connectors or something? I did notice that the fender to door gap is bigger on the drivers side than it is on the passenger side.

IF I have what you described right, the windo fell forward out of the door when you opened it smashing on the interior of the car. I what could ahve heppened is that the sash of the window was brittle from the cold and the glass had fozen to the weather stripping enought to pull it free when you opened the door. There is a lot of glass there it is heavy.

The only thing I can come up with is you purchased a lemon. Did you get a carfacts reports while you were purchasing it? If you say the body is out of alignment, the car most likely taken some beating, probably an accident.

I would take the door panel off and see if you can determine how the glass slipped out of the frame. That might give an idea, as it should be some what secured fully up.

See where the glass would've connected to the lifter (don't know what it's called) and see if anything is broken.

Orcus79 thats kind of what I was guessing to. Its about the only thing I could think of. Chucki669 I'm gonna take the door apart as soon as I can get it down to my shop, no heat in the garage where it is now. And its not supposed to stop snowing for three or four days. I really appreciate the help and opinions, I just recently found this website and all the information on here has been real informative.

I was just thinking also. If it was the glass sticking to the weather stripping, is there anything I can put on the rubber to stop it from sticking to the glass. It usually stays pretty cold around here 10-20 degrees or colder most of the time and I would like this to not happen again.

Dielectric grease or silicone lube/spray. The grease is actually GM recomended.
