Brake Issues

Good Afternoon,

I havn't been on in a while so I decided to stop by say hey.

On another note I need to ask about something that has been happening with my Red 2001 v6 Firebird.

As I have seen other users post I'm now getting the lights, ABS INOP - Service Vehicle - Brake lights will come on after about 5 seconds after I turn the key to on. Doesn't matter if I start the car or not they come on either way.

I took the brake unit and sent it off check / repair and it came back good. I noticed how some people said something about the third light and it can cause this issue. Sure enough the third lights, brake lights in the hatchback, will not light at all. No power at all. So from what I am guessing its a short somewhere.

Can any one tell me where I can look to find this short? Where is the most likely place? What should I look for? And does anyone have a wiring schematic showing where the cables are running?

O and one more thing. I had my brother in law use a GM Tech Tool to scan the brake system. It wouldn't connect. He said it was getting power to the unit but it wasn't making a connection to the ECU /?

Your car might have an LED third brake light, which is a motherboard with several LEDs soldered to it. I cannot be sure as I have not seen many hawks on the roads near me. If it is not an LED, then you will have to trace the wiring from the light to the roofline and see if the wiring might have broken. Or, you might have to pull the headliner and trace where the wiring goes.

Is your car tuned? That could be the reason the scanner can't connect with the PCM.
