It would depend on the cam installed, who does the tune, and the driver. There are plenty of cars that are faster that lose races either because of the driver. Why not do a cam, slicks, and tune? The pulley would be the last thing I'd do, as it will net the least amount of benefit.

A stall > both of those options.

That wasn't one of the options, Jon.
Of course, you are correct though. I would advise the OP about the additional stress to the drivetrain no matter which way he would choose to go. Getting traction with a stock 10 bolt will not end well. But, to effectively put the power to use, and see lower et's, you'll need traction and cut down that 60' time. Which, in turn, requires better tires.

Between the options you listed only, or what would be the best route overall?

any cam worth talking about will have to have a stall so in your choices it would be slicks and no cam because a cam without a stall would be small enough not to make much difference. Can't do a decent cam without a stall.

I understand you don't want to do the stall.....I get it. I can tell you though exactly which guy you're gonna be. You're gonna be that guy that bench races by advertised horsepower. LS1 325HP+fast intake/TB 30HP+headers 30HP+underdrive pulley 15HP =400HP. Then you'll run into someone bone stock with a stall that'll put a bus length on you in the quarter.

My engine is bone stock and the car goes 12.430 in the quarter. Since I built the car from the back to the front, and am also running an A4, I can quantify the mods for you. On street tires, with only subframe connectors and a catback it went 13.395. Adding a tunnel mount torque arm, lower control arms, a panhard bar, headers, catted Y-pipe, track wheels and tires, and a tune dropped it to 12.885. Last summer I swapped out to a Performabuilt Level II transmission and a 3,200 stall converter and went 12.430. By far, the stall was the best bang for the buck.

Jeff also forgot to mention one key thing here...his rear end. He has a 12 bolt, which can take the abuse of running a sticky tire and launching the car harder at the track.
With just a 10 bolt and sticky tires, your track passes are probably much more limited and your rear end is going to be on a short leash IMO.

I got exactley 21 passes on my 10 bolt with sticky tires, then it went boom on the street.

Oops, that's right Jon. I swapped out the 10 bolt with 3.23's for a Moser 12 bolt equipped with 3.73's when the car went 12.885. Sticky tires and a stock 10 bolt is just a problem waiting to happen at the track. As already posted, no other single mod in that price range will get you the same drop in E.T. as a stall.

Ill preach the stall as well. The power is already there, it just needs to be transferred properly and safely. G M spent all the money in development for the motor and none on suspension and the rear end.

500 rwhp? Stock 10 bolt? Slicks? Not going to happen. I run just north of 450 hp in mine, and did the stupid thing and tried to build the 10 bolt. I ended up breaking 3 sets of gears, after grenading 2 carriers. On street tires. Something doesn't add up there. A 7.5/7.65" 10 bolt was never designed to handle the amount of hp a stock ls1 puts out. V6's have been known to break them. Especially when you add slicks to the equation.
