    Body modification

Does anyone know of anyone who has had the top of a coupe modified to come off and generally how much? Just a general question. I had an old intergra that had something like this done when I bought it. Just trying to see where I can start my camaro mods.

I would think this to be a very expensive project what with the cost of reinforcing the roof to prevent body flex, and actually getting a body shop to do the job right. Maybe worth it if you already have ttops and some reinforcement already in place but personally i wouldn't bother if it were a hardtop. Too much $$.

I did a t-top conversion on mine for under 500 bucks. Wasnt really that hard to do if you have the right tools.

Cool, so you modified yours to be a T top or you modified the T top you already had?

It cost me roughly 500 bucks from ebay for most of the parts. Go to this website http://members.fortunecity.com/gripe...onversion.html
These are the instructions I used to do mine. The only thing is that is does not cover installation very well. I had to improvise how to ensure the seals were good, but other than that, it was straight forward. I can be more detailed if yoou seriously pursue the changeover. Whats nice is that all the metal underneath is there, the channels, brackets, and even holes for the center support to bolt down.

I would throw some subframes connectors under it before you do that if you are worried about the structural integrity of your car.

I bought the t-tops, weatherstripping, and headliner on ebay. Then I found a roof in a junk yard and got the a pillars for the front, two little plastic things in the rear, the brackets and shims for the tops, center support, upper windshield trim and the weatherstripping retainers that go on the underside of the windshield support. The other thing I did was trim with a dremel the fiberglass moulding at the rear of the roof. The tops sort of sit on it and then it runs 3/4 of the way down for looks. I carefully cut it off and epoxied it on my roof to give it a more original look. The only prob I have is that the stripping I got on ebay was junk. They were wore out and still leak in a couple of spots, not bad though. I am going to get new ones from GM, but the cost 300 bucks for the pair, can you say ouch.
