Most likely hydro lock if it happened on start up.

I worked on an Avalanche 2500 with the 8100. What size is that? I was saying to myself "I wonder if this would fit into an Fbody or GTO?"

what causes hydro lock, what can you do to prevent it and is it really common with our motors. Sorry for the questions this is the first ive heard of it.

Hydro lock is when one or more cylinders fill with water or basicly liquid. and under compression will lock the motor up, usually resulting in broken parts.
How it can happen can be many ways, from driving through deep water, to a leaking head gasket, to as some seem to have found out leaking intake gaskets where water seeps in.

shit i dont know what could cause it, shit it snow 4 weeks ago, after that i was the car(motor in hi pressure) then rain a week later, and the week after that and after that and today it rain again so on my next motor its going to be a car only driven in a good day or i might as well just change the place of the air filter.

prolly didn't come through the air intake/filter.. Seen several instances here where fuel injector o-ring failed and water pooled on top of it and leaked in. Lots of rain/snow on the car along with an old seal is probable here. Let us know when you get it figured out! Best of luck!

I just don't see how water ends up under peoples hoods. Something must be broke to let water drain down on the engine.

ya i think thats the problem. this doesnt happen all the time, just when the rain and wind are bad. normally puddles around cylinder # 4

The LS1 has no coolant passages at all in the intake manifold. I have seen quite a few LT1 engines with intake manifold gasket leaks. I have never seen one hydro-lock and blow though. Ones I have seen leak externally or internally (mixing with the oil).
