    Battery relocation box

Looking into moving my battery box in the rear hatch area, does anyone know what amperage does the factory stater draw on a 00 ls1? Does anyone know of a write up on relocating the battery?

With a 4th gen F-body & if you want to be NHRA legal the battery will need to be in a sealed, vented to outside box. I don't recall the exact specs on the box as I did mine several years ago but a standard RV/boat plastic box will not cut it. Also a seperate wire from the alternator back to the switch (you need a shut off switch too) so the alternator is isolated from the main power wire going foreward & the car will then actually stop running when the switch in turned off.

If you want to be IHRA legal you will also need a firewall forward of the t-top well.

Vented if it is a acid battery. Gel batteries do not have to be vented. Also you will need a exteranl disconnect.

Are you asking what amperage the alternator makes? Or what the static draw of your car is?

Also, I believe that box needs to mounted to the car, per NRHA.

Wouldn't the be the battery CCA?

I think the stock LS1 alt makes ~150A. Upgraded makes ~200A.

Static should be milliamps or even microamps.

Yes CCA. I dont know what exactly he is asking for. I took he is asking about the battery amps....If it is cold cranking amps (required) I would say around 720 CCA.

Oh, I saw stater, some people confuse them for alternators. Even though a stater is actually spelled stator. I think I'm getting confused...

A spelling mishap one way or another.

A GM starter will typically draw between 100 and 200 amps...sometimes more if its really cold out. Hope that helps the OP
