    Bad gas mileage...

I have been getting about 15 mpg lately, that is about half anf half city/highway. I am wondering what I can do to increase the gas mileage, because when I first got the car I was getting about 20-25...

Also, it seems that everytime I turn the car off then return to it a little bit later, the gas gauge goes down significantly... What could this be or are they all like this?

    Thanks
    -Scott

are you getting any Check engine lights? My gas gauge doesn't change from shut down and start up. I'm thinking you must have a leak. If so, you may be setting a code.

Do you ever smell fuel when you are getting in/out of your car?

When is the last time you did a tune up? Air filter and plugs specifically? A nasty air filter or old plugs can rob 5mpg easy.

Check your 02 Sensors. They could be coated or fouled with carbon and exhaust by products Especially if they have never been changed. This will cause up to a 15% decrease in fuel economy due to slow response.

Same thing happened to me. When I went to change the plugs the wires broke right off. And they had wire pullers so not like I did it wrong. As soon as I got the new ones in my MPG has gone up. I need to wash my K&N this weekend, thanks for reminding me.

plugs take about 30 mintues to change. its easy. since you havent mentioned if the car is stock or modified or i just missed it, its hard to tell. id look into the plugs, fuel filter and especially the o2 sensors. Our sponsor Fred Beans Pontiac has great prices! When i need stock replacement parts, i go to them!
