    Aux. Air Check Valves?

To the tune of $260.00? Today I took my stock '01 Z28 to the garage across the street from where I work to have them see what code came up because the 'Service Engine Soon' light had been on for a couple of days (it wasn't a loose gas cap and the cat converter had already been replaced under warranty). The car has only 42,000 original miles and I'm the original owner.

The guy at the desk told me the code that came up indicated I needed to replace the auxiliary air check valves. I asked him what the actual code was, but he didn't know. He wasn't the one who worked on it, but he said that the code indicated that the valves were partially blocked and that they cleared the code so that the light would turn off. He also said that I would need to take it to a Chevy dealership to get the repair done. But then he said that maybe it didn't mean that I needed to replace the valves, that I should wait and see if the light comes back on. I paid him $35 for checking it out, but I think they should have paid me for the gas they used 'test driving' it! Grrrrrr.

Have you guys ever heard of this issue? I did a search in here and on Google, but didn't turn anything up that seems to match. I wish they would have told me the code.

The car's running fine, so I guess I shouldn't worry about it, but it's my baby, so I worry...

I was getting 1416 for the right side (1415 is the left side) and decided to change them both. The valves were 10-15 each at Auto Zone, easy job.

Thank you all! I really appreciate the expert advice. It's especially good to know this is something I can do myself. I HATE leaving my Camaro anyplace where people who don't know how to drive it will be taking it for a joy ride.

Have had the same problem a few times. DTC code is P1614 and P1615 (14 = bank 1, Dr. side, 15 = bank 2 Pass. side). My check valves had rust in them causing problem, most likely couldn't draw vacuum. 10mm socket for bolts on tube. I found them on Rock Auto.com for half the price at parts stores (AZ wanted $40 !!) Get gasket also. Easy to do.

My buddy is looking to get this Z28 project with P1614 code as per current owner. Gonna take it to the shop next for code scanning after it came from tire mounting and balancing. Will definitely start replacing the check valve.

The Error codes (DTC) should have been 1415 and 1416. My bad typing !!
