Arguing with wife and need input....
My wife and I were arguing earlier today, about wether you check the trans fluid with the engine hot or cold. and also the oil when it's hot or cold. I say you check the trans fluid after you drive it for a while, and the oil after it's been sitting. what do you guys suggest?

Yeah, a lot of cars say whether to check the tranny hot or cold, park or neutral. I don't know on the f body b/c I have a manual tranny.

Wow, that sounds allot cooler than me arguing with my wife about f'n dishes. My wifes idea of a car argument is the wiper blade thingy streaks...
Oh and I check my trans fluid with my pinky. (m6)

Transmission- should be hot and I usually have the engine running.
Engine-check cold, when engine isnt running, or a few minutes after you have shut the engine off.

oil you have to check cold, or after the car has sat for a few min. If you don't you'll get a low reading because gravity pulls most of the oil down through the motor to the pan.

08 Mustang GT/CS Blue- 2002 Trans Am WS6 traded
from the manual:
Wait at least 30 minutes before checking the
transmission fluid level if you have been driving:
When outside temperatures are above 90F (32C).
At high speed for quite a while.
In heavy traffic -- especially in hot weather.
While pulling a trailer.
To get the right reading, the fluid should be at normal
operating temperature, which is 180F to 200F
(82C to 93C).
Get the vehicle warmed up by driving about
15 miles (24 km) when outside temperatures are above
50F (10C). If it’s colder than 50F (10C), drive the
vehicle in DRIVE (D) until the engine temperature gage
moves and then remains steady for 10 minutes.
A cold fluid check can be made after the vehicle has
been sitting for eight hours or more with the engine off,
but this is used only as a reference. Let the engine run
at idle for five minutes if outside temperatures are
50F (10C) or more. If it’s colder than 50F (10C),
you may have to idle the engine longer. Should the fluid
level be low during this cold check, you must check the
fluid hot before adding fluid. Checking the fluid hot will
give you a more accurate reading of the fluid level.

Black / Stryker Blue- 2K WS.6/ 2K9 G8GT
if you check the engine oil with it running, your not getting a correct reading
tranny warm idling in park, oil engine off and settled for at least a few min.
