Well it could'nt hurt, though because of the strange (to me) water jacket arangement,,

you would likely see other more serious issues if it was the head gasket,,,

but still could'nt hurt stranger schtuff has happened..

Without looking it up you prolly should be somewhere between 9:25 and 10:0/ 1.

If you're sure you got the air out of the system then it just may be..

WHat did you come up with on the compression test?

The bad news is if it is a head gasket it's easier to replace the engine than to fix it in car..

Prolly be time better spent as well.

plus 1. Especially if you've verified the cooling fan operation, t-stat, water pump, no leaks anywhere, rad. cap. After reading this thread, I believe it's a head gasket also. Sometimes they can leak just enough so you don't lose coolant fast, and the amount that goes into the exhaust is small enough to be vaporized so you don't see the white clouds like a massive head gasket failure. Another sign of a small head gasket leak would be low/no heat from the heater. A small pressure leak of combustion gases into the cooling system from the head gasket can cause coolant flow problems, then overheating.

I agree with this as well. The best thing is to see the replacement engine run, with no overheating issues, of course. Junkyard engine, who knows.
