any drawbacks to Racetronics fuel pump

I'm still doing my reseach on fuel pumps and am finding out the GM stock FP is a turd even at stock power levels.

I'm convinced even though it still works it;s the cause of the ping a WOT.

?any drawbacks to Racetronics fuel pump?

like extra current draw on alternater will wear out the alt.? I do have a medium powered audio sys.

with all this extra preasure is the stock regular at risk to blow?

been searching the net for images of the hot wire install like where the wire crosse's over the rans. hump.

    any comments are welcome.

    Thanks

    drawbacks

Ed I'm impressed w/ the big power on you're car I've known and read about it for a few year's congrats.

however my TA is at 390rwhp and is a DD. w/ AC & audio.

I'm still confussed w/ the pinging issuse at WOT and am willing to swap the FP, or maybe just start w/ there hot wire kit?

please let me know of any drawbacks from a high preformance FP.

    Thanks

Racetronics are Walbro pumps. I've used Walbro in the past on other cars with great results, no issues.

the first step would be to see what your fuel pressure is at WOT...as a guess I'd say your pump isn't the root cause of your pinging. Have you scanned the car and verified knock and how much is there? Any mods to the car? Is there a tune on the car, handheld perhaps?
Racetronix makes a great kit. I pulled power right off the back of the alt. so you don't have to cross over the trans. I'm pretty sure they even recommend to pull it off the back of the alternator...that way you get a solid 14volts to the pump at all times and the voltage won't drop. That's the whole purpose of the hotwire kit.
I don't know that I'd go yanking the stock pump on a whim though without diagnosing the car first...could be a number of things really.

    pinging & FP

I've owned the car since 01 actually was a member of LS1 back then (narlyta) untill the restructor of the site.

anyways bougth the car stock it pinged the dealership told all LS1 ping.

over the years this is stuff I've tryed to resolve the ping while car was stock.
1.change spark plugs (AC delco irideims and NGKt55) w/ good taylor wires

    2.clean w/ Q-tip MAS

3.Seafoam overnight before oil change though the brake booster vacunm tube.

4.intake manifolf catch can (home depot style).

    none provided a solution.

bought car stock then started w/ air lid and K&N air fliter
    then LTs,ory-pipe & catback

then mild cam this when I had it tuned to my surprize tuner told me someone had changed a few basic things like
    1.fan settings
    2.increased timing
    3.transmision line preasure to 90PSI
and some other basic stuff (can't remember all right now however this would indicate a handheld was used.

it was tuned w/ HP tuners on the expressway (no Dyno) took him about an hour for fine tuning at WOT on the expressway. I did'nt notice the ping during the tuning it occures at WOT just before the A4 shifts.

Ed yes I change my fuel fliter every 22-25K miles w/ a fram. and alllways use 93-93.5 octane maybe this is why the orginale FP still pumps.

I'm planning on installing a fuel preasure guage and monitor it closely when the ping happens.

over the years the car has been scanned w/ the tech2 tester however we never looked at knock but did discover a lean condition on banks 1 and 2

I beleive the FAST 78mm intake caused this lean condition.

you say Racetronix makes a great kit. I pulled power right off the back of the alt. ? did you still have to connect a wire to the fuse box?

Lastly can I connect a mulitmeter to the fuel pump wires and watch for a lowering in Voltage supply at WOT? maybe just the hotwire would be the solution to the dreaded ping?

    Thanks Guy's for the surport
