    Another minor issue...

    Hi,

well, I know about the usual Firebird headlamp issues, mine doesn't have <those> so far.. (1 up, stuck, noises, sluggish, stripped gears...)

But, now & again, when I turn the lights on... they just don't come up (both)! There's no evidence anything tried to move, although the lights come on. usually, if I drive off, they then both come up a few minutes/seconds later, as normal. It doesn't seem to be triggered by e.g. driving over a bump or similar.

When this happens, turning them on-off-on etc. doesn't make any difference, they stay down.

I'd have to <guess> this could be a doubtful connection for the control unit? Isn't that somewhere behind the LH headlight? -does anyone have a diagram of the up/down control wiring, btw?

They never do things like going up/down by themselves etc. Strange.

    ideas?

    Thnks -D

Have you ever messed with them befor?
I ask because I had to put the new/better brass gear in and when I reassembled the light assembly it locked up on me. The reason mine wouldnt go up was that the pivot arm locked up. They are somewhat of a stupid design. Course you say both dont come up so this might not be the issue.

A quick way of checking the signal, if you think thats the problem, just pull the plug on the light motor and put a volt meter to it. If it gets the signal right away when turing the light on, it might be a mechanical problem like I stated befor. If a delay then its probably what your thinking.

No, I have never touched them, & they seem to be ok as far as gears go, maybe because the lights don't actually get used so much where I live... <grin>.

It did it again today, I drove off, 1 mile down the road they both came up..

Weird. I will have to find that control box I think

does sound like an electrical issue. This is the best I can do on the diagram. Vista doesn't work with my scanner so I'm SOL. I took this with the camera and uploaded it. Might have to resize it.
