3 BOLTS!!!!! Well thats diffrent, sound like a job to pay someone 65.00 an hour to do. Of course book proably says 6 hours. BUT 3 BOLTS, THATS JUST TOO MUCH TO ASK FROM ANYBODY. Thanks for the info, I would hate to get two bolts out and discover it was 3. Then I would have to have the car towed to a garage because it has 3 bolts.

I just did mine this morning, you're right three bolts. 2 are 15mm and 1 is 1/2. Mine didn't fall out on me i actually had to fight to get it out. The hard line that turns into hose that goes to the power steering kinda held it up for me. The clip connector was a bitch and half too, but probably because i took out all the bolts first and had it all twisted around, I had to reach it from the top and use a piece of wire hanger to unclip it. I also believe the ground on the back was a 1/2in too. I wasn't too terrible, but the bolt on the rear afforded me no room so i used some extensions and a universal to reach it from the top, or if you are dead set on going below i would remove the shroud around the wheel well. I got mine new from ebay and it was $78 and with shipping it was $94. Hope this info helps.

this was my first change on an ls1, too bad gm couldnt keep it at the top. Hopefully there wont be a next time, at least anytime in the foreseeable future. when you do it do you first unclip the connected and the ground before you remove the bracket bolts?

i depends..i always go from the bottom and 90% of the time i will unclip the connector ..then remove the excitor and so on..the remove the bolts..but at times on some cars i have removed all but 1 bolt to move it to a more favorable position to remove the connectors...its really odd..some are easy (mine) and others are a real pita to remove

you must have the alternator from hell...from the bottom..use a rubber mallet to knock it into place if need be ..and please remember to plug it in and connector the excitor ring before you get it in been there done that
