All Reman Alt's garbage for LS1?

Went and picked up a new alternator after finding out mine was fried due to a poor battery connection (bolt was stripped) and after pulling the old one and putting up the new one, I found that when idling, it was putting out low reg (12.39) and low ampage (<30) - I've heard from a couple people that remanufactured alternators for the LS1's are all going to be pretty bad like that.

When I'm sitting at an idle, my battery guage drops into the red (10-11ish) but when I put any load on it (rpms > 1,000 | idle at ~ 500) it shoots back up to ~13 (dead center).

It's a ultima 102 amp and I'm wondering if I should get it replaced with another one and go through the entire swap process again hoping it works, or just pay the extra $20 for a new Ultima 102 amp.

If you are running a under drive set-up they act this way too.

Anything remanned is garbage compared to brand new. Not limited to ls1's either. If it's only 20 bucks more for a brand new one, I would do it.

Since I am running a UDP setup, it sounds like this would be normal from what you're saying.

Yeah with the under drive pulley I would say 85% chance that is all it is.

    That is an interesting thread!

Looking at the pics, it seems he bent one of the A/C lines quite a bit. I'm not an A/C pro but I think that is a big enough kink to cause other issues.

I just replaced my Reman Alternator from O'reillys after only 2 weeks with a new one. It just stopped working and left me stranded.

How important is that clip that holds them to the Alternator bolt? Just noticed I left mine off and the lines are just hanging. It doesn't appear to be a big deal, but not a mechanic either.
