Advice on fixing / replacing sun visor?
I love my car, but she's slowly falling apart.
Yesterday the driver's side visor fell into my lap. The mounting bracket was still attached to the headliner, but the visor itself popped out. After I got home I removed the bracket and the passenger visor to compare it to a working version. Here's a pic.

It appears that the visor is mounted to the bracket with a spring and washer held in place by a thin ring of cheap looking metal surrounding the tip of the the rod leading from the visor. That little ring broke on the driver's side visor.

It appears to still be in place on the passenger's side.

I tried to retrieve the washer that popped off the driver's side visor. It's still inside the frame behind the headliner. I stuck my finger in there and felt the washer for about 1 second, but then it slid down the A pillar and I don't think there's anyway to get to it now. So if I hear a new rattle going forward, at least I'll know what it is.
I'm halfway considering trying to find a replacement washer and soldering in place of the old one. Barring that, does anyone know the part number of these things? I guess I'll have to order one from GMpartsdirect (assuming they can match the color and that they sell them for less than $50).

I used a washer over the spring & a self tapping screw & screwed it into the center of it.
Found a screw just the right size so no drilling.....been there for 5 years now.
And yeah.....forget about the washer down the A pillar.....you'll never see it again

That was much more clever idea than the one I had. I rummaged through my toolbox and came up with a 15 minute solution. It involved a small screw, a washer and lock washer.

I had to widen the washer using a 3/8 drill bit so it would slip over the end of the visor rod. Doing so widened it so much that the screw head was no longer wide enough to clamp the washer down, hence the need for a lock washer. It's not elegant, but it works. I can keep the sun outta my eyes again. Thanks for the advice. Here's hoping the car lasts another five years so I can check and see if my fix lasts as long as yours.
