AC/vent fan in dashboard making ugly noise.
The in-dash air-conditioner/vent fan has started making a real bad vibrating and grinding sound. At the lowest setting it doesn't make any noise. When you turn the dial to the second setting it starts making noise. And it gets louder the higher you turn it. It sounds horrible at the highest setting.
It does it when using vent, defrost, and air-conditioning.
The a/c still works but there are times when the fan is grinding and it doesn't blow very hard. The temperature is cold it just doesn't blow out the vent hard enough to cool the car well.
How hard is this to fix?
Does the dashboard have to come out?
Can anyone show me a link to give me an idea of what I am getting into?
How much am I looking at to fix it?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

A/C Fan
That started to happen to my 98 SS and about 2 weeks later it went out.It is fairly easy to replace it should be located below your glove box. There is a panel that should come out with two screws as soon as thats off you'll see where it is located. It only takes three screws and off she comes. I bought the A/C blower from my local O'Reilly's for about $40. Good Luck

That is great news. I was really afraid it was going to require the removal of the dash or something crazy like that(lets face it, car manufacturers do crazier stuff on a daily basis). I'll check it out tomorrow and get crackin' on it here soon. Thanks a lot. Nice first post.

always dirty- 2013 Ram 2014 Caddy ATS
Could also be junk trapped in there. Ford is the one who likes to bury stuff in the dash so it takes hours to replace a 40 dollar part.

Mine did the same thing and when I pulled it out I found a bunch of leaves and junk in the cage, cleaned it and it worked like new. 20 minute fix!

I just came inside from finishing the swap. It was easy. It literally took longer for me to find my tools and then the correct socket size than it did to do the job.
There was a whole lot of stuff in the blower. I cleaned it out and it probably would have worked just fine. But I had already bought a new motor and I figured the original was 10 years old and with my luck would have gone out in a month anyways, so I swapped it. Nothing but a nice blowing sound now the way it should be. I don't know whether it was all the junk stuck in it slowing it down, but the new motor definitely blows a lot harder. So it was worth the $40.
